Making Data Accessible
Wisconsin has gathered (broadband availability and coverage) data from internet service providers and residential survey data to help tell the story of broadband access in Wisconsin.
To make sense of big data, we displayed these data using tables, graphs, and maps.
- Coverage data comes from the National Broadband Map(NBM) CSV downloads and are represented at the Census Block level. (Note: It is not unusual to see changes in coverage or speed from a carrier across NBM submissions. We find it helpful to compare changes over several data vintages to “average out” the impact of change due to factors such as data production practice; program reporting requirements; mergers; technology changes/updates and shifts in Census vintage). Note - mapped coverage is based on provider supplied data from the State Broadband Initiative and may not be inclusive of all broadband data available in the state.
- Subscription data comes from the FCC's Form 477 and are represented at the Census Tract level. The definition of high speed internet connections used by Form 477 has changed from the BTOP definition (at least 768K download and 200K upload) to the NBP definition (at least 3M download and 768K upload). Visit the FCC's Form 477 Resources for Filers page for more details.
- Community Anchor Institution data comes from the most current National Broadband Map CSV downloads.
